On Thursday 19 April 2018 Philip Marshall KC and Anthony Kirk KC led a complement of eight to Bristol to participate in the National Conference. We were joined there by James Turner QC, Nicola Fox, Tom Dance and Frances Harris. The Senior Clerk, Chris Gittins, and Deputy Senior Clerk, Mark Betts, also attended. The event was highly successful with no fewer than 530 delegates in attendance from every conceivable corner of the country.
More than 10 years ago, 1KBW was the first set of chambers to provide sponsorship to Conference and to offer up a workshop.
This year we were pleased to become the principal legal sponsor and to address the issue of ‘What barristers want and need from solicitors’. This was in every sense a return match from the FLBA National Conference in 2017, when Margaret Heathcote (the incoming chair in 2018) and Michael Gillman (Bishop & Sewell) elected to go into bat first!
The debate was lively and certainly interactive. The result? It would be kindly (and certainly not untrue) to say that “rain stopped play” on this one! We now look forward to taking part in the Devon Resolution Conference on Friday 11 May, as well as the Resolution DRS Conference in Nottingham later in the year.
We send our good wishes to Margaret as she now takes over the mantle from Nigel Shepherd, also to the rest of the team at Resolution.
